Shadows

The tall buildings here can make light really difficult but sometimes it seems to work out alright.

Ray's Candy Store: Part II

Still trying to figure out how to tie this project together. Running into a few issues trying to keep photographs visually interesting and varied in such a small place.

Ray's Candy Store: Work in Progress

I've been hanging around Ray's Candy Store on Avenue A and 7th Street - a little hole in the wall convenient store with the best fries you'll ever eat. Ray Alvarez, a 76 year-old Turkish immigrant, works in the store in 12+ hour shifts, every night of the week. He cuts the fries by hand and tends to his customers, despite his health problems- Ray does not have a social security number and cannot get government benefits because he has no birth certificate. Business has been bad lately, too- he can't pay his bills. I recommend that everyone go over there and taste his amazing fries- just be careful, the sizes are misleading- a medium can feed probably three people.
